Perhaps the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Usually this is associated with downloading an application that includes spyware, by not having browser security options large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security patches in a timely manner.
Action 1. Update the definitions of your antivirus and operate a complete scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Notice that some infections require additional steps before they can be removed; generally a web search will locate specific instructions or a particular removal tool. Use the BC forums to obtain support, if you can’t find a answer.
Step Two. You’ve recently saved an application, and if the slowness is unexpected, the issue might reside there. Check this by fully eliminating it. Step 3. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your computer’s performance, and these are around the Net. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains include at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the explanations of your antispyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will routinely operate two or three of these applications, because each company has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own set. (A record of quite good, free anti spyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
Stage 4. Evaluation applications that self-start on startup. You computer can be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for instance, install a rapid-start feature which permits them to be opened quickly; other programs may include an automated update feature that demands them to be operating in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a little bit of sources while your personal computer is running.
The simplest way to review and than to manage start-ups is to use one of many little resources available (see the Bc list of free apps). You can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to show off any you usually do not want, if, for example, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that BC maintains a really comprehensive Startup Database that includes information about whether the inquired item is required, elective, or unnecessary, in case you are uncertain about what may be safely removed.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your own Desktop also take a modest amount of boot time to set themselves.
Absence of Upkeep

(Note for advanced users: some experts would comprise the added upkeep step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find several programs to assist do this. For the most part, so this step is not included, you may do severe harm by making registry modifications, registry maintenance will not make a critical difference, and unless you’re really comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair Vista Reboot Issue After Updates.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows tends to put new files in any available open space; defragging will place associated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear and tear while boosting up plans.
