Possibly the most important contributor to a badly performing computer is malware. Often this is related to downloading a software that contains spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security sections in a timely manner.
Action 1. Update the definitions of your antivirus and run a full scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses require extra steps until they could be removed; ordinarily a websearch will locate specific instructions or a particular removal tool. If you can’t find a solution, use the Bc forums to obtain help.
2. If the slowness is unanticipated, and you have recently saved an application, the problem may reside there. Test this by completely eliminating it. A user will typically perform a websearch about the application before installing because in most instances, any potential difficulty with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Action 3. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your personal computer’s operation, and these are all over the Internet. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains include at least one bit of spyware waiting for sufferers.
Revise the definitions of your anti-spyware applications and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Step 5. Clean-up your hard drive (preparation for Action 7). Delete unused programs and transfer old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files which you have already opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete.
(Note for sophisticated users: some professionals would comprise the added maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find several apps to assist do that.
