Malware
Perhaps the greatest contributor to a badly performing computer is malware. Often this is associated with downloading an application that includes spyware, by not having browser security options large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security patches regularly.
Stage 1. Update the explanations of your anti-virus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Note that some infections need additional measures until they could be removed; ordinarily a websearch will locate specific directions or a special removal tool. Use the Bc forums to obtain help, if you can’t find a answer.
Step 2. If the slowness is unanticipated, and you have recently downloaded an application, the problem might live there. Check this by completely removing it. A user will typically perform a web search about the program before installing because in most instances, any potential issue with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Step 3. Adware and Spyware can dramatically impact your computer’s performance, and these are throughout the World wide web. A very recent research showed that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains include at least one bit of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the explanations of your antispyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced users will often operate 2 or 3 of these programs, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own set. (A listing of really good, free antispyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
For additional reading about Malicious software and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the programs have quite good Help documents that clarify how they operate too as the unique characteristics of each.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Review programs that self-start on startup. You pc may be a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for example, install a rapid-start feature that allows them to be opened fast; other programs may contain an automated update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your launching Windows and each needs a little bit of sources while your computer is running.
The simplest method to examine and than to handle start ups would be to use one of the numerous little utilities available (see the Bc list of free apps). You can use its startup tool that lists startups and allows you to turn off any you usually do not need, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that Bc maintains a quite complete Startup Database that contains info about whether the inquired item is required, discretionary, or unnecessary, in case you are unsure about what could be safely removed.
At-the same time, remember that all those icons on your own Desktop also take a small amount of boot time to put themselves.
Absence of Maintenance
Step 5. Clean-up your hard drive (preparation for Action 7). Delete unused applications and transfer old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family images, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some experts would include the additional maintenance step of cleaning up the Windows registry, and there are plenty of apps to help do this. For the most part, so this measure isn’t included, you may do significant harm by making registry changes, registry maintenance will not make a significant difference, and unless you’re quite comfortable with Windows, and carefully make copies of the registry
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix Unable To Change Fake My Wireless.
Action 7. Defragment your computer.
Hopefully, since you have have ended, you’ll find a noticeable improvement in pc performance.
