I am publishing a summary listing of general things you can do to solve this issue, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and insufficient maintenance, because several readers write about their computer responding slowly.
Malware
Maybe the most important factor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Action 1. Revise the definitions of your antivirus and run a complete scan of your hard drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses require additional measures before they may be removed; usually a web search will find specific instructions or a particular removal tool. If you can’t find a answer, use the BC forums to request help.
Step 2. You have recently saved an application, and if the slowness is surprising, the problem may rest there. Test this by entirely eliminating it. A user will generally perform a web search about the program before downloading it because in most instances, any possible issue with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Stage three. Adware and Spyware can radically effect your computer’s performance, and these are around the Web. A very recent study indicated that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains comprise at least one bit of spyware waiting for sufferers.
Experienced customers will often operate 2 or 3 of the applications, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A list of very good, free anti spyware programs is given by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next phase.
Uncontrolled Applications
Stage 4. Evaluation applications that self-launch on startup. You pc can become a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for instance, install a fast-launch feature that allows them to be exposed immediately; other programs may include an automated update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these decreases your launching Windows and each requires a little bit of resources while your computer is running.
The easiest approach to examine and than to handle startups will be to work with one of many little utilities available (see the Bc list of free apps). If, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you may use its startup tool that lists startups and allows you to show off any you usually do not want. In case you are unsure about what can be safely removed, remember that Bc maintains a quite comprehensive Startup Database that contains information about whether the inquired item is required, elective, or not needed.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Desktop also take a small number of trunk time to put themselves.
Absence of Maintenance
Step 5. Delete unused programs and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files that you have opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for the old printer you threw away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for sophisticated users: some professionals would contain the additional upkeep stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you will find several programs to assist try this. For the most part, so this measure is not contained, you can do significant damage by creating registry changes, registry maintenance won’t make a major difference, and unless you’re really comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make backups of-the registry
Step 6. Have it fix System Shows Windows No Disk.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows will put new documents in any available open space; defragging will place affiliated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear-and tear while boosting up plans.
Hopefully, now that you have have ended, you’ll see a marked improvement in pc performance.
