I’m submitting a summary record of basic steps you can take to resolve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and insufficient care, because several readers reveal their computer responding slowly.
Maybe the greatest factor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Usually this is related to downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security settings high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security patches regularly.
Action 1. Update the definitions of your anti virus and operate a full scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Note that some infections require extra measures before they could be removed; typically a web search will find specific instructions or a particular removal tool. If you cannot find a solution, use the Bc forums to request support.
Step Two. You’ve recently downloaded an application, and if the sluggishness is abrupt, the issue might reside there. Check this by fully removing it. A user will normally perform a web search about the program before installing because in most instances, any possible trouble with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Action 3. Adware and Spyware can radically effect your computer’s functionality, and these are throughout the Web.
Update the explanations of your anti-spyware applications and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned users will regularly run 2 or 3 of the programs, because each business has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A list of very great, free anti spyware programs is provided by BC). Again, solve any open issues before continuing to the next phase.
For further reading about Malware and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the programs have really good Help files that clarify how they function too as the special characteristics of each.
Step 4. Review apps that self-launch on startup. You computer may be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for instance, install a fast-start feature which enables them to be opened swiftly; other programs will include an automatic update feature that demands them to be working in the background. Each of these slows down your debut Windows and each needs a small bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
The simplest method to review and than to manage startups will be to use one of the many little utilities available (see the BC list of free applications). Remember that BC maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the questioned item is needed, elective, or unnecessary, if you’re uncertain about what may be safely removed.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Background also take a modest amount of boot time to set themselves.
Absence of Maintenance
Step 5. Delete unused programs and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files which you have opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are some types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some specialists would include the added upkeep step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find several applications to help do that. For the most part, registry care will not make a critical difference, and unless you’re quite comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry, you can do severe harm by making registry changes, so this step is not included
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair System.ini Windows 7 Whats Inside.
Step 7. Defragment your pc. Windows will set new documents in any available open space; defragging will set associated sections of files closer together so your read arm has less travelling around the hdd to do, saving wear-and tear while racing up programs.
Hopefully, since you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable enhancement in computer operation.
