I’m publishing a summary checklist of general steps you can take to resolve this issue, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of maintenance, because several readers reveal their computer reacting slowly.
Malware
Perhaps the most important contributor to a badly performing computer is malware.
Step 1. Revise the explanations of your anti virus and operate a complete scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Notice that some viruses need additional measures before they can be removed; generally a web search will locate specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a solution, use the Bc forums to request support.
Step Two. You’ve recently saved an application, and if the slowness is abrupt, the issue might rest there. Test this by entirely eliminating it. A wise user will usually perform a websearch about the application before installing because in most cases, any potential difficulty with malware or poor performance will have appeared.
Stage 3. Adware and Spyware can radically effect your computer’s operation, and these are throughout the Web.
Revise the explanations of your antispyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced users will often operate 2 or 3 of these applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A list of quite good, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
For additional reading about Malicious software and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the applications have really good Help documents that describe how they function also as the special attributes of each.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Evaluation programs that self-start on startup. You computer may be a arena for your consideration. Many programs, for example, install a fast-launch feature which enables them to be exposed quickly; other programs may contain an automated update feature that demands them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your introduction Windows and each requires a little bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
The simplest method to examine and than to handle start ups would be to use one of many little utilities available (see the Bc list of free apps). You can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to turn off any you usually do not need, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. If you are uncertain about what could be safely deleted, remember that BC maintains a really comprehensive Startup Database that contains information about whether the inquired item is needed, elective, or not needed.
At-the same time, remember that those icons on your own Desktop also take a small number of boot time to set themselves.
Absence of Upkeep
Stage 5. Delete unused applications and exchange old files to your CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files that you have already opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete.
(Note for higher level users: some professionals would include the added upkeep stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find several applications to help do this. For the most part, registry maintenance will not make a major difference, and unless you’re quite comfy with Windows, and cautiously make copies of the registry, you may do severe harm by creating registry changes, so this measure is not contained
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it mend Socket Error 2031.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows will put new files in any available open space; defragging will place affiliated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear-and tear while racing up plans.
Hopefully, since you have have concluded, you will see a marked improvement in computer operation.
