Perhaps the greatest factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Usually this is related to downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security areas in a timely manner.
Stage 1. Update the definitions of your antivirus and run a full scan of your hard drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Notice that some infections require additional steps before they can be removed; ordinarily a web search will find specific instructions or a particular removal tool. Use the BC forums to request help, if you cannot find a answer.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is sudden, and you have recently downloaded an application, the issue may live there. Test this by entirely removing it. A user will typically perform a websearch about the application before downloading it because in most instances, any possible problem with malware or poor performance will have appeared.
Action three. Adware and Spyware can radically impact your computer’s functionality, and these are around the Web. A very recent research indicated that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains contain at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the definitions of your anti-spyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced users will consistently run 2 or 3 of these programs, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A list of very good, free antispyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
Step 4. Review apps that self-launching on startup. You computer may become a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for instance, install a fast-launch feature that allows them to be exposed promptly; other programs will contain an automated update feature that requires them to be working in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a small bit of sources while your personal computer is running.
The easiest way to examine and than to manage startups will be to work with one of the numerous small utilities available (see the Bc list of free programs). You can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to turn off any you do not need, if, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. If you are unsure about what could be safely removed, remember that BC maintains a quite comprehensive Startup Database that includes info about whether the item is required, discretionary, or not needed.
At the same time, remember that those icons on your Desktop also take a small number of trunk time to put themselves.
Lack of Upkeep
Stage 5. Cleanup your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused applications and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family images, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are some types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for sophisticated users: some professionals would comprise the additional maintenance step of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of applications to assist do this. For the most part, so this measure is not contained, you can do significant damage by making registry changes, registry maintenance won’t make a significant difference, and unless you are very comfortable with Windows, and carefully make copies of the registry
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix Runtime Error R6002 Floating Point.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows will put new files in any available open space; defragging will place associated segments of files closer together so your read arm has less going around the hard drive to do, saving wear and tear while speeding up applications.
Hopefully, since you have have ended, you will see a noticeable improvement in pc performance.
