I’m submitting a summary record of basic things you can do to resolve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care, because several readers write about their computer reacting slowly.
Maybe the greatest factor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Often this is related to downloading a software that includes spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security patches in a timely manner.
Step 1. Revise the explanations of your anti-virus and run a full scan of your hard drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Note that some infections require extra steps until they can be removed; generally a web search will find specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a answer, use the Bc forums to request support.
2. If the sluggishness is sudden, and you have recently downloaded an application, the problem may live there. Check this by completely eliminating it. A smart user will typically perform a websearch about the program before getting because in most cases, any potential trouble with malware or poor performance will have appeared.
Step 3. Adware and Spyware can radically impact your personal computer’s performance, and these are throughout the Web. A very recent research indicated that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains feature at least one bit of spyware waiting for sufferers.
Update the definitions of your anti-spyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will consistently operate 2 or 3 of the programs, because each business has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A listing of very great, free anti spyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
Step 4. Evaluation apps that self-launching on startup. You pc can become a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for example, install a quick-start feature which allows them to be exposed fast; other programs will contain an automatic update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your launch Windows and each needs a little bit of resources while your personal computer is running.
If, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you may use its startup tool that lists startups and lets you to turn off any you don’t want. Remember that BC maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that includes information about whether the item is needed, optional, or not needed, if you’re unsure about what could be safely removed.
At-the same time, remember that all those symbols on your own Desktop also take a small number of trunk time to set themselves.
Lack of Care
Stage 5. Delete unused programs and move old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files which you have already opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some professionals would comprise the added upkeep stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find several apps to help do that. For the most part, registry maintenance won’t make a critical difference, and unless you’re quite comfy with Windows, and cautiously make copies of the registry, you may do significant damage by making registry changes, so this measure isn’t included
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair Installshield 5003.
Action 7. Defragment your pc.
Hopefully, now that you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable improvement in computer operation.
