Malware
Perhaps the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware.
Stage 1. Update the explanations of your anti-virus and run a full scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Notice that some viruses need extra steps until they may be removed; usually a websearch will find specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you fail to find a answer, use the BC forums to request assistance.
Step 2. If the slowness is sudden, and you’ve recently downloaded an application, the problem may live there. Check this by fully eliminating it. A wise user will generally perform a web search about the program before getting because in most instances, any potential difficulty with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Stage three. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your computer’s operation, and these are all over the World wide web. A very recent study showed that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains comprise at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Seasoned users will regularly operate two or three of these programs, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own set. (A record of quite good, free anti spyware programs is provided by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Evaluation programs that self-launching on startup. You computer can become a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for example, install a rapid-launch feature which permits them to be opened immediately; other programs will comprise an automated update feature that requires them to be operating in the background. Each of these slows down your launching Windows and each requires a small bit of sources while your computer is running.
The easiest method to examine and than to handle start ups will be to utilize one of many little resources available (see the BC list of free applications). If, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to turn off any you do not want. If you are unsure about what may be safely removed, remember that BC maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that includes info about whether the item is required, optional, or unnecessary.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Background also take a modest number of trunk time to set themselves.
Lack of Maintenance
Step 5. Delete unused applications and transfer old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family images, zipped files that you have already opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some types of files you can delete.
(Note for advanced users: some experts would comprise the additional upkeep stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find several programs to help try this. For the most part, registry care will not make a critical difference, and unless you are quite comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry, you may do severe harm by creating registry modifications, so this step isn’t included
Stage 6. Have it mend I Took Mouse And Keyboard Out.
Stage 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows tends to put new documents in any available open space; defragging will place associated sections of files closer together so your read arm has less travelling around the hard drive to do, saving wear-and tear while speeding up plans.
Hopefully, since you have have finished, you will see a noticeable improvement in computer functionality.
