I am posting a summary record of general things you can do to resolve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of maintenance, because many readers write about their computer responding slowly.
Perhaps the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Generally this is associated with downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security settings high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security sections regularly.
Step 1. Update the definitions of your anti virus and operate a complete scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses need extra steps until they may be removed; usually a websearch will find specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you cannot find a solution, use the Bc forums to obtain assistance.
Step 2. You have recently saved an application, and if the sluggishness is abrupt, the problem may live there. Check this by fully eliminating it. A user will normally perform a internet search about the application before downloading it because in most cases, any potential difficulty with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your computer’s functionality, and these are around the Net.
Revise the definitions of your anti-spyware applications and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will routinely operate 2 or 3 of these programs, because each company has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own established. (A listing of very great, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
For further reading about Malicious software and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the applications have very good Help documents that clarify how they function too as the distinctive characteristics of each.
Stage 4. Evaluation programs that self-start on startup. You computer may become a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for example, install a quick-start feature that permits them to be exposed immediately; other programs may contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be working in the background. Each of these slows down your introduction Windows and each needs a little bit of resources while your personal computer is running.
The easiest way to examine and than to manage startups will be to-use one of the many little resources available (see the BC list of free programs). If, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to turn off any you don’t want. Remember that Bc maintains a quite complete Startup Database that includes info about whether the questioned item is required, elective, or not needed, in case you are unsure about what can be safely removed.
At the same time, remember that all those icons on your own Background also take a modest amount of boot time to set themselves.
Lack of Upkeep
Step 5. Delete unused applications and move old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for that old printer you threw away last year—these are some types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for higher level users: some experts would contain the additional upkeep stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find several apps to help do that. For the most part, registry care will not make a major difference, and unless you are quite comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make backups of the registry, you may do significant damage by creating registry changes, so this measure is not contained
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair Error Code 5305.
Step 7. Defragment your pc. Windows will put new files in any available open space; defragging will place related sections of files closer together therefore your read arm has less travelling around the hdd to do, saving wear-and tear while speeding up plans.
Hopefully, now that you have have ended, you’ll see a noticeable improvement in pc functionality.
