I am submitting a summary checklist of general things you can do to solve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and insufficient care, because several readers reveal their computer responding slowly.
Maybe the greatest factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Usually this is associated with downloading an application that includes spyware, by not having browser security settings large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security sections in a timely manner.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a full scan of your hard drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Notice that some viruses require extra measures until they may be removed; usually a websearch will locate specific directions or a particular removal tool. If you cannot find a solution, use the BC forums to request help.
Step 2. If the sluggishness is surprising, and you’ve recently downloaded an application, the problem might live there. Check this by completely removing it. A sensible user will generally perform a web search about the program before getting because in most cases, any potential difficulty with malware or poor performance will have appeared.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your personal computer’s operation, and these are all over the Internet. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains feature at least one bit of spyware waiting for sufferers.
Seasoned users will frequently run two or three of these applications, because each company has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own established. (A listing of quite good, free anti spyware programs is provided by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
Stage 4. Evaluation apps that self-start on startup. You computer may be a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for instance, install a quick-launch feature that permits them to be exposed promptly; other programs may comprise an automated update feature that requires them to be operating in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a little bit of sources while your computer is running.
If you are uncertain about what may be safely deleted, remember that BC maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that includes info about whether the item is needed, optional, or not needed.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Background also take a small number of boot time to set themselves.
Lack of Maintenance
Step 5. Delete unused applications and exchange old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family images, zipped files that you have previously opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for high level users: some professionals would contain the additional upkeep stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of programs to help do that. For the most part, so this step is not contained, you can do significant damage by making registry modifications, registry maintenance will not make a vital difference, and unless you are really comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make copies of the registry
Stage 6. Have it mend Error Code (0xc0000096) In Microsoft Word.
Stage 7. Defragment your pc. Windows will set new documents in any available open space; defragging will set related sections of files closer together so your read arm has less travelling around the hdd to do, saving wear-and tear while boosting up plans.
Hopefully, now that you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable enhancement in computer performance.
