I am publishing a summary checklist of general steps you can take to resolve this issue, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and insufficient care, because many readers come up with their computer reacting slowly.
Malware
Possibly the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Often this is associated with downloading a software that includes spyware, by not having browser security settings large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security patches in a timely manner.
Stage 1. Update the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses require additional steps before they can be removed; generally a web search will find specific instructions or a special removal tool. Use the BC forums to obtain support, if you cannot find a solution.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is unanticipated, and you have recently saved an application, the problem may live there. Test this by totally removing it. A smart user will normally perform a web search about the program before downloading it because in most cases, any potential issue with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Stage three. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your computer’s functionality, and these are all over the World wide web. A very recent research showed that one out-of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains include at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Revise the explanations of your anti spyware programs and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will consistently operate two or three of these applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A record of really great, free anti spyware programs is provided by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
For additional reading about Malware and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the programs have very great Help files that clarify how they work too as the special characteristics of each.
Uncontrolled Applications
Stage 4. Review apps that self-launching on startup. You computer may be a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for instance, install a rapid-start feature that allows them to be exposed swiftly; other programs will include an automated update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your launching Windows and each needs a small bit of assets while your computer is running.
The simplest way to examine and than to manage start-ups is to use one of the numerous little resources available (see the BC list of free programs). If you are uncertain about what could be safely deleted, remember that BC maintains a really complete Startup Database that contains info about whether the item is required, elective, or unnecessary.
At-the same time, remember that those icons on your Background also take a modest amount of boot time to place themselves.
Lack of Maintenance
Step 5. Cleanup your hard drive (preparation for Stage 7). Delete unused applications and transfer old files to your CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced users: some specialists would contain the added maintenance stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you will find several programs to help do this. For the most part, so this step is not contained, you can do significant damage by making registry changes, registry maintenance will not make a major difference, and unless you’re really comfortable with Windows, and carefully make copies of the registry
Action 6. Have it repair Driver Download Microsoft.
Stage 7. Defragment your personal computer.
Hopefully, since you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable enhancement in pc performance.
