I’m posting a summary checklist of basic steps you can take to resolve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care, because several readers reveal their computer reacting slowly.
Maybe the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware.
Stage 1. Revise the explanations of your anti virus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses require additional steps before they may be removed; generally a web search will find specific directions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a solution, use the BC forums to obtain help.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is surprising, and you have recently downloaded an application, the problem might reside there. Test this by fully eliminating it. A user will generally perform a web search about the application before downloading it because in most instances, any potential difficulty with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Step 3. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your computer’s operation, and these are throughout the Net.
Update the explanations of your anti spyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will often operate two or three of these programs, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A listing of very great, free anti-spyware applications is provided by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
Stage 4. Review applications that self-launching on startup. You computer can be a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for example, install a quick-start feature which enables them to be exposed rapidly; other programs may contain an automated update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a little bit of resources while your computer is running.
Remember that Bc maintains a quite comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the item is needed, elective, or unnecessary, if you’re unsure about what may be safely deleted.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Desktop also take a small amount of trunk time to put themselves.
Lack of Maintenance
Stage 5. Clean-up your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused programs and transfer old files to your CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files which you have opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete.
(Note for high level users: some professionals would contain the additional maintenance stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find several programs to assist do that. For the most part, so this step is not included, you may do significant damage by creating registry modifications, registry maintenance will not make a critical difference, and unless you’re really comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of-the registry
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it mend App Error.
Step 7. Defragment your pc.
Hopefully, now that you have have finished, you’ll see a noticeable enhancement in computer operation.
