Malware
Maybe the greatest contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Action 1. Revise the definitions of your anti virus and run a full scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses need extra measures before they can be removed; usually a web search will find specific instructions or a particular removal tool. Use the BC forums to request support, if you can’t find a solution.
Step 2. If the slowness is surprising, and you have recently saved an application, the issue may live there. Test this by entirely removing it. A wise user will typically perform a websearch about the program before downloading it because in most cases, any possible trouble with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your personal computer’s operation, and these are around the Net.
Seasoned customers will routinely operate 2 or 3 of the applications, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A record of quite good, free anti-spyware applications is provided by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
Uncontrolled Applications
Stage 4. Evaluation applications that self-launch on startup. You computer can be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for instance, install a quick-start feature which allows them to be opened rapidly; other programs may comprise an automated update feature that demands them to be working in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a little bit of resources while your computer is running.
If, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to show off any you do not need. Remember that Bc maintains a very complete Startup Database that contains information about whether the item is required, optional, or not needed, if you’re uncertain about what may be safely removed.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your own Desktop also take a modest number of boot time to place themselves.
Lack of Care
Step 5. Clean-up your hard drive (preparation for Action 7). Delete unused applications and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files which you have already opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for higher level users: some professionals would comprise the additional maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and there are several applications to assist do that. For the most part, registry maintenance won’t make a vital difference, and unless you’re very comfy with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry, you can do significant damage by making registry modifications, so this step is not contained
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair Active X Windows Update.
Stage 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows tends to set new documents in any available open space; defragging will place related segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear and tear while speeding up plans.
Hopefully, now that you have have finished, you will see a marked enhancement in pc operation.
