Perhaps the most important factor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your antivirus and operate a full scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Note that some infections require additional measures before they could be removed; usually a web search will find specific directions or a particular removal tool. Use the Bc forums to obtain help, if you cannot find a answer.
Step 2. You’ve recently downloaded an application, and if the slowness is sudden, the problem might dwell there. Test this by entirely eliminating it. A user will usually perform a web search about the program before getting because in most cases, any possible difficulty with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Step 3. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your personal computer’s performance, and these are throughout the World wide web.
Update the definitions of your anti-spyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will routinely run 2 or 3 of these programs, because each business has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. (A set of really great, free antispyware applications is given by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next phase.

In case you are unsure about what could be safely removed, remember that Bc maintains a quite complete Startup Database that includes info about whether the inquired item is needed, discretionary, or not needed.
At-the same time, remember that those icons in your Background also take a modest number of boot time to place themselves.
Lack of Upkeep
Step 5. Delete unused applications and move old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files which you have opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for higher level users: some professionals would include the additional maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and there are several programs to assist do this. For the most part, so this step isn’t contained, you can do serious damage by creating registry modifications, registry maintenance will not make a major difference, and unless you’re really comfy with Windows, and cautiously make backups of the registry
