Malware
Possibly the most important factor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Action 1. Update the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a full scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Note that some infections need additional steps until they may be removed; ordinarily a websearch will find specific directions or a particular removal tool. Use the BC forums to request support, if you fail to find a solution.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is sudden, and you’ve recently saved an application, the issue may rest there. Test this by completely removing it. A smart user will usually perform a web search about the application before downloading it because in most instances, any potential issue with malware or inferior performance will have appeared.
Action 3. Adware and Spyware can radically effect your computer’s operation, and these are all over the Web. A very recent study indicated that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains contain at least one bit of spyware waiting for sufferers.
Update the definitions of your anti-spyware programs and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will often run several of the applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own established. (A set of really good, free antispyware applications is provided by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Review programs that self-start on startup. You computer may be a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for example, install a quick-start feature which enables them to be exposed fast; other programs will contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be working in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a small bit of resources while your computer is running.
Remember that BC maintains a quite complete Startup Database that contains info about whether the inquired item is needed, optional, or not needed, if you’re uncertain about what could be safely deleted.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your own Background also take a small amount of trunk time to set themselves.
Lack of Care
Step 5. Delete unused applications and exchange old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family images, zipped files which you have already opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete.
(Note for high level users: some experts would contain the added maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and there are plenty of programs to assist do this. For the most part, so this step isn’t included, you can do significant harm by creating registry modifications, registry maintenance won’t make a critical difference, and unless you’re quite comfy with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry
Stage 6. Have it repair 0x6624.
Action 7. Defragment your pc. Windows will set new documents in any available open space; defragging will set associated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear and tear while racing up applications.
Hopefully, since you have have ended, you’ll see a marked improvement in computer performance.
