Because many readers come up with their computer reacting slowly, I am posting a summary listing of general things you can do to solve the 0x4000cissue, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care.
Perhaps the greatest contributor to a badly performing computer is malware. Usually this is related to downloading an application that includes spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security sections regularly.
Action 1. Revise the definitions of your anti-virus and run a full scan of your hard drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Note that some viruses need extra measures until they may be removed; usually a websearch will locate specific directions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a answer, use the Bc forums to request support.
2. If the slowness is unanticipated, and you’ve recently saved an application, the problem may rest there. Check this by totally removing it. A wise user will usually perform a websearch about the program before installing because in most cases, any potential trouble with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your personal computer’s functionality, and these are all over the Web. A very recent research showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains contain at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the definitions of your anti-spyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned users will frequently operate several of the programs, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A record of quite great, free anti spyware programs is given by BC). Again, solve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
For additional reading about Malicious software and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the programs have quite great Help files that explain how they work also as the unique characteristics of each.
Step 4. Evaluation applications that self-launching on startup. You computer can become a battleground for your consideration. Many programs, for example, install a quick-start feature which permits them to be exposed fast; other programs will comprise an automated update feature that requires them to be working in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a little bit of sources while your personal computer is running.
You can use its startup tool that lists startups and lets you to show off any you don’t need, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that Bc maintains a very complete Startup Database that includes information about whether the item is needed, optional, or not needed, in case you are unsure about what may be safely deleted.
At the same time, remember that those symbols on your own Desktop also take a modest number of boot time to set themselves.
Absence of Care
Stage 5. Delete unused programs and exchange old files to a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files which you have opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for that old printer you threw away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some professionals would include the additional upkeep step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of applications to help try this. For the most part, registry maintenance will not make a critical difference, and unless you are quite comfy with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry, you may do serious damage by creating registry changes, so this measure is not contained
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix 0x4000c.
Action 7. Defragment your computer.
Hopefully, since you have have ended, you will see a marked enhancement in computer functionality.
