Because several readers write about their computer responding slowly, I’m posting a summary checklist of general things you can do to resolve the 0x0000164Eissue, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care.
Perhaps the most important contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Stage 1. Revise the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a full scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Notice that some infections need additional measures before they may be removed; typically a internet search will find specific directions or a particular removal tool. Use the Bc forums to obtain assistance, if you cannot find a answer.
2. You have recently downloaded an application, and if the sluggishness is abrupt, the problem may rest there. Check this by completely removing it. A user will normally perform a web search about the program before getting because in most cases, any possible trouble with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your personal computer’s functionality, and these are throughout the Internet.
Update the explanations of your antispyware programs and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will regularly run two or three of these applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own established. (A listing of quite good, free antispyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
Stage 4. Review applications that self-start on startup. You computer can be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for example, install a fast-start feature that enables them to be opened swiftly; other programs may include an automated update feature that requires them to be operating in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a little bit of assets while your computer is running.
If, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you may use its startup tool that lists startups and lets you to turn off any you don’t need. Remember that Bc maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the item is required, elective, or unnecessary, if you’re unsure about what may be safely removed.
At the same time, remember that all those icons on your Desktop also take a small number of trunk time to set themselves.
Lack of Care
Stage 5. Delete unused applications and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for high level users: some experts would include the additional maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and there are plenty of programs to help do this. For the most part, so this step isn’t contained, you may do significant harm by creating registry modifications, registry care won’t make a critical difference, and unless you are very comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make copies of the registry
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix 0x0000164E.
Action 7. Defragment your pc.
Hopefully, now that you have have concluded, you will find a marked enhancement in computer performance.
