Malware
Possibly the greatest factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Often this is associated with downloading a software that includes spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security areas regularly.
Action 1. Update the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Note that some viruses require extra measures before they can be removed; generally a internet search will locate specific instructions or a particular removal tool. Use the BC forums to obtain assistance, if you cannot find a answer.
2. You have recently downloaded an application, and if the slowness is unexpected, the problem may reside there. Test this by entirely eliminating it. A wise user will normally perform a web search about the application before installing because in most instances, any potential difficulty with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Step 3. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your computer’s performance, and these are around the Net.
Update the definitions of your antispyware applications and check your hard drives in Safe Mode. Seasoned customers will often operate two or three of these applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own set. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a small bit of assets while your computer is running.
The simplest method to examine and than to manage start ups is to work with one of the many little utilities available (see the BC list of free apps). You may use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to show off any you don’t need, if, for example, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that BC maintains a quite complete Startup Database that contains info about whether the inquired item is needed, optional, or not needed, if you’re unsure about what can be safely deleted.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your own Background also take a modest number of boot time to place themselves.
Absence of Care
Step 5. Delete unused programs and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files that you have already opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete.
(Note for higher level users: some specialists would contain the added care stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find plenty of programs to help do that. For the most part, so this measure is not contained, you may do serious damage by making registry changes, registry care won’t make a major difference, and unless you’re quite comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix Xp Language Pack Fail To Install.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows tends to put new documents in any available open space; defragging will place associated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less travelling around the hard drive to do, saving wear-and tear while racing up programs.
