Malware
Maybe the most important factor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Generally this is associated with downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security settings large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security sections regularly.
Stage 1. Update the definitions of your anti virus and run a complete scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Note that some viruses need extra steps before they can be removed; normally a websearch will locate specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you fail to find a solution, use the Bc forums to obtain help.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is abrupt, and you’ve recently downloaded an application, the problem might reside there. Test this by fully eliminating it. A user will generally perform a web search about the application before downloading it because in most instances, any potential difficulty with malware or inferior performance will have appeared.
Action three. Adware and Spyware can dramatically impact your computer’s operation, and these are around the World wide web.
Revise the explanations of your anti spyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will often run two or three of these programs, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A listing of very great, free anti-spyware applications is provided by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Review programs that self-start on startup. You computer can be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for example, install a fast-launch feature which permits them to be opened fast; other programs will comprise an automated update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your launch Windows and each requires a little bit of sources while your computer is running.
You can use its startup tool that lists startups and lets you to show off any you don’t need, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that BC maintains a quite comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the questioned item is needed, discretionary, or not needed, in case you are uncertain about what could be safely removed.
At the same time, remember that all those icons on your Desktop also take a modest number of trunk time to place themselves.
Absence of Upkeep
Step 5. Clean up your hard drive (preparation for Stage 7). Delete unused programs and transfer old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files which you have opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete.
(Note for high level users: some specialists would contain the additional care stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and there are plenty of apps to help do that. For the most part, so this measure is not included, you can do significant damage by creating registry modifications, registry maintenance won’t make a major difference, and unless you’re very comfortable with Windows, and carefully make backups of-the registry
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix Windows Oxc0000142.
Step 7. Defragment your computer. Windows will set new files in any available open space; defragging will place affiliated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear and tear while racing up plans.
Hopefully, since you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable enhancement in computer operation.
