Because many readers reveal their computer responding slowly, I’m publishing a summary record of basic steps you can take to solve the Warning Orderproblem, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of maintenance.
Malware
Perhaps the most important factor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your anti virus and operate a full scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Notice that some viruses need additional steps before they could be removed; normally a web search will locate specific instructions or a special removal tool. Use the Bc forums to request assistance, if you can’t find a answer.
Step Two. If the slowness is abrupt, and you’ve recently saved an application, the problem might live there. Check this by totally removing it. A user will typically perform a internet search about the application before downloading it because in most instances, any potential issue with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Action three. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your computer’s operation, and these are around the Internet. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains include at least one bit of spyware waiting for victims.
Seasoned customers will often operate 2 or 3 of the programs, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A list of very good, free antispyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next step.
For further reading about Malware and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the applications have very good Help files that explain how they function also as the distinctive characteristics of each.
Uncontrolled Applications
Stage 4. Review applications that self-launch on startup. You pc can become a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for example, install a rapid-launch feature that allows them to be opened fast; other programs will contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be running in the background. Each of these decreases your launch Windows and each requires a small bit of assets while your computer is running.
The easiest way to review and than to handle start-ups would be to use one of the many little resources available (see the BC list of free applications). You can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to show off any you usually do not need, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. If you’re uncertain about what could be safely deleted, remember that Bc maintains a very complete Startup Database that contains information about whether the item is needed, optional, or not needed.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your Desktop also take a modest amount of trunk time to put themselves.
Absence of Upkeep
Step 5. Clean up your hard drive (preparation for Action 7). Delete unused applications and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files which you have opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete.
(Note for high level users: some professionals would comprise the added maintenance step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of programs to help try this. For the most part, so this measure is not included, you can do significant damage by creating registry changes, registry maintenance won’t make a vital difference, and unless you are really comfy with Windows, and carefully make copies of-the registry
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it fix Warning Order.
Action 7. Defragment your pc. Windows will put new files in any available open space; defragging will place related segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less going around the hdd to do, saving wear and tear while boosting up programs.
Hopefully, since you have have finished, you’ll find a marked enhancement in pc operation.
