Malware
Possibly the most important contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Generally this is related to downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by declining to install security sections regularly.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your anti-virus and operate a full scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable issues. Note that some infections require additional measures before they may be removed; ordinarily a web search will locate specific instructions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a solution, use the Bc forums to obtain support.
Step Two. You’ve recently downloaded an application, and if the sluggishness is unanticipated, the problem might live there. Check this by entirely removing it. A wise user will generally perform a web search about the program before getting because in most instances, any potential trouble with malware or inferior performance will have appeared.
Stage three. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your computer’s performance, and these are all over the Net.
Experienced customers will consistently run 2 or 3 of these programs, because each business has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own established. (A list of really good, free anti spyware applications is given by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.

Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Evaluation programs that self-start on startup. You pc can be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for example, install a rapid-launch feature which permits them to be exposed immediately; other programs will contain an automated update feature that requires them to be working in the background. Each of these slows down your launch Windows and each requires a little bit of sources while your personal computer is running.
The simplest method to examine and than to handle start-ups will be to work with one of many small utilities available (see the Bc list of free programs). Remember that Bc maintains a very complete Startup Database that includes information about whether the inquired item is required, elective, or unnecessary, if you’re uncertain about what may be safely deleted.
At the same time, remember that all those icons in your Desktop also take a modest number of boot time to place themselves.
Absence of Maintenance
Stage 5. Delete unused programs and exchange old files to your CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for the old printer you put away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some professionals would comprise the additional upkeep stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of programs to assist do this. For the most part, so this step is not contained, you can do severe harm by making registry modifications, registry care won’t make a vital difference, and unless you’re very comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make copies of the registry
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it mend Service Specific Error 2119.
Step 7. Defragment your personal computer.
