Because several readers come up with their computer reacting slowly, I am publishing a summary listing of basic things you can do to resolve the Download Speedupissue, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care.
Malware
Maybe the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Usually this is associated with downloading a software that includes spyware, by not having browser security options large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security sections regularly.
Stage 1. Update the definitions of your antivirus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Note that some viruses require additional steps before they can be removed; typically a web search will find specific directions or a special removal tool. Use the BC forums to request help, if you fail to find a solution.
Step Two. If the sluggishness is unexpected, and you’ve recently saved an application, the problem might dwell there. Test this by entirely removing it. A user will normally perform a web search about the program before downloading it because in most cases, any potential difficulty with malware or poor performance will have surfaced.
Action three. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your computer’s performance, and these are throughout the Net. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains feature at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Seasoned customers will routinely run 2 or 3 of these applications, because each company has its own requirements for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own established. (A listing of quite good, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before continuing to the next phase.
Uncontrolled Applications
Stage 4. Review apps that self-start on startup. You computer can become a battleground for your interest. Many programs, for instance, install a rapid-start feature which allows them to be opened quickly; other programs will include an automatic update feature that requires them to be running in the background. Each of these slows down your introduction Windows and each requires a small bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
The simplest way to examine and than to manage start-ups is to work with one of the many small utilities available (see the BC list of free apps). If you’re unsure about what could be safely deleted, remember that BC maintains a really complete Startup Database that includes information about whether the item is required, elective, or unnecessary.
At the same time, remember that those symbols on your Desktop also take a modest number of trunk time to place themselves.
Absence of Maintenance
Stage 5. Clean-up your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused applications and move old files into a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files that you have opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for the old printer you threw away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete.
(Note for advanced users: some professionals would comprise the added care stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find several apps to assist try this. For the most part, registry maintenance will not make a significant difference, and unless you’re very comfy with Windows, and carefully make copies of the registry, you may do severe harm by creating registry changes, so this measure is not contained
Step 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it mend Download Speedup.
Action 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows will set new documents in any available open space; defragging will place affiliated sections of files closer together therefore your read arm has less travelling around the hard drive to do, saving wear-and tear while boosting up applications.
Hopefully, now that you have have finished, you’ll see a noticeable enhancement in pc operation.
