Perhaps the most important contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Often this is related to downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security settings high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security patches regularly.
Stage 1. Revise the definitions of your antivirus and operate a complete scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Note that some viruses need additional measures until they can be removed; usually a web search will find specific directions or a particular removal tool. Use the Bc forums to obtain help, if you can’t find a solution.
Step Two. You’ve recently saved an application, and if the sluggishness is sudden, the issue may dwell there. Check this by fully removing it. A user will usually perform a web search about the application before getting because in most cases, any potential issue with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Stage three. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your computer’s functionality, and these are around the Web. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains contain at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Experienced users will consistently run two or three of the programs, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own set. (A listing of really great, free anti-spyware applications is supplied by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
For additional reading about Malware and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the applications have quite great Help files that describe how they operate too as the unique features of each.
Step 4. Evaluation apps that self-launch on startup. You computer can become a arena for your consideration. Many programs, for instance, install a quick-start feature which permits them to be opened rapidly; other programs may contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be running in the background. Each of these decreases your launching Windows and each requires a little bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
The simplest method to examine and than to manage startups would be to use one of many small utilities available (see the BC list of free applications). You may use its startup tool that lists startups and allows you to show off any you do not need, if, for example, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. If you are uncertain about what could be safely removed, remember that BC maintains a really comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the item is required, elective, or unnecessary.
At the same time, remember that those symbols on your Background also take a small amount of boot time to set themselves.
Lack of Care
Stage 5. Cleanup your hard drive (preparation for Action 7). Delete unused programs and move old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files which you have previously opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete.
(Note for high level users: some experts would include the added maintenance stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find several applications to help do that. For the most part, registry care will not make a major difference, and unless you are really comfy with Windows, and cautiously make backups of-the registry, you can do serious damage by creating registry changes, so this step isn’t included
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair Dns Server Failure.
Stage 7. Defragment your personal computer. Windows tends to set new documents in any available open space; defragging will place associated segments of files closer together therefore your read arm has less travelling around the hard drive to do, saving wear and tear while boosting up applications.
Hopefully, since you have have finished, you’ll find a marked improvement in computer operation.
