I am submitting a summary checklist of general things you can do to solve this problem, and briefly discussing the three most common causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and lack of care, because many readers come up with their computer responding slowly.
Malware
Possibly the greatest contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware. Usually this is associated with downloading a software that contains spyware, by not having browser security options large enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security areas regularly.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your antivirus and run a full scan of your hard disk in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable problems. Note that some infections need extra measures before they can be removed; ordinarily a web search will find specific instructions or a special removal tool. Use the BC forums to request support, if you can’t find a solution.
Step 2. You’ve recently downloaded an application, and if the slowness is unanticipated, the problem may reside there. Test this by entirely eliminating it. A user will generally perform a websearch about the program before getting because in most cases, any possible trouble with malware or inferior performance will have appeared.
Action three. Adware and Spyware can radically effect your computer’s operation, and these are all over the Web. A very recent research indicated that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains comprise at least one bit of spyware waiting for victims.
Seasoned customers will regularly operate several of the programs, because each company has its own criteria for what constitutes spyware and will simply search against their own established. (A listing of quite great, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Evaluation apps that self-launch on startup. You pc can become a arena for your interest. Many programs, for example, install a quick-launch feature that enables them to be opened immediately; other programs will comprise an automated update feature that demands them to be running in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a little bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
You can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to show off any you don’t want, if, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy. Remember that BC maintains a really complete Startup Database that includes info about whether the item is needed, discretionary, or unnecessary, if you are uncertain about what can be safely removed.
At-the same time, remember that all those symbols in your Background also take a modest number of trunk time to put themselves.
Lack of Upkeep
Stage 5. Cleanup your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused applications and move old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files that you have already opened, applications you have not found in two years, software for the old printer you threw away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for advanced level users: some experts would contain the additional care stage of cleaning the Windows registry, and you will find several programs to help do that. For the most part, so this step isn’t contained, you can do significant harm by creating registry modifications, registry care will not make a significant difference, and unless you’re very comfortable with Windows, and carefully make copies of-the registry
Stage 6. Have it repair Activex Controls Installed.
Stage 7. Defragment your computer. Windows will put new files in any available open space; defragging will set related segments of files closer together so your read arm has less going around the hard drive to do, saving wear-and tear while speeding up programs.
Hopefully, now that you have have finished, you’ll find a marked improvement in pc functionality.
