Possibly the greatest contributor to a poorly performing computer is malware.
Step 1. Revise the definitions of your anti virus and run a full scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Notice that some infections require additional measures before they can be removed; usually a web search will locate specific instructions or a particular removal tool. If you cannot find a solution, use the Bc forums to obtain help.
Step 2. If the sluggishness is unanticipated, and you’ve recently saved an application, the problem may reside there. Test this by totally eliminating it. A user will normally perform a websearch about the program before downloading it because in most cases, any possible problem with malware or inferior performance will have surfaced.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically impact your personal computer’s operation, and these are around the Net. A very recent study showed that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains feature at least one bit of spyware waiting for victims.
Revise the definitions of your anti-spyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will often run several of these applications, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A listing of really great, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, resolve any open issues before continuing to the next phase.
Step 4. Review programs that self-launch on startup. You pc can become a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for example, install a rapid-launch feature which allows them to be opened fast; other programs will contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be operating in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each needs a small bit of sources while your computer is running.
The easiest approach to examine and than to handle start ups would be to use one of the many little resources available (see the Bc list of free apps). In case you are uncertain about what could be safely deleted, remember that BC maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that contains info about whether the questioned item is needed, optional, or not needed.
At-the same time, remember that those symbols on your Background also take a small number of trunk time to set themselves.
Absence of Upkeep
Stage 5. Cleanup your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused applications and transfer old files to a CD. Unplayed games, lots of family images, zipped files which you have already opened, applications you haven’t found in two years, software for that old printer you put away last year—these are a few types of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to remove temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for high level users: some professionals would contain the added maintenance stage of cleaning up the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of apps to help do that. For the most part, registry care will not make a significant difference, and unless you are very comfortable with Windows, and cautiously make backups of the registry, you may do serious damage by making registry changes, so this measure is not contained
Stage 6. Have it repair 0x16bff0.
