Because several readers come up with their computer responding slowly, I am publishing a summary listing of general things you can do to solve the 0x000ff708issue, and briefly discussing the three most frequent causes : malware, uncontrolled applications, and insufficient maintenance.
Maybe the most important contributor to a badly performing computer is malware.
Stage 1. Revise the definitions of your anti-virus and run a complete scan of your drive in Safe Mode. Resolve any unfixable issues. Notice that some infections need extra measures until they can be removed; ordinarily a web search will find specific directions or a special removal tool. If you can’t find a answer, use the Bc forums to obtain support.
2. If the slowness is surprising, and you have recently downloaded an application, the problem may reside there. Check this by entirely removing it. A user will normally perform a web search about the program before downloading it because in most instances, any potential problem with malware or inferior performance will have appeared.
Action 3. Adware and Spyware can dramatically effect your computer’s performance, and these are all over the Net. A very recent study indicated that one out-of every 20 executable files on Web sites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains feature at least one piece of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the definitions of your antispyware applications and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced customers will routinely operate 2 or 3 of the programs, because each company has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will just search against their own set. (A listing of very great, free anti-spyware applications is provided by BC). Again, solve any open issues before continuing to the next step.
For further reading about Malware and some malware removal applications, use BC’s Tutorial section; most of the programs have very great Help documents that explain how they work also as the special features of each.
Step 4. Review applications that self-start on startup. You computer may be a battleground for your attention. Many programs, for instance, install a fast-launch feature which allows them to be exposed instantly; other programs may contain an automatic update feature that demands them to be operating in the background. Each of these decreases your launch Windows and each needs a small bit of assets while your computer is running.
The easiest method to review and than to handle startups is to work with one of the numerous small resources available (see the Bc list of free applications). If, for instance, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you can use its startup tool that lists startups and enables you to turn off any you do not want. In case you are unsure about what could be safely removed, remember that Bc maintains a very comprehensive Startup Database that includes information about whether the questioned item is required, discretionary, or unnecessary.
At-the same time, remember that those icons on your Desktop also take a small number of trunk time to put themselves.
Lack of Maintenance
Stage 5. Delete unused programs and move old files to your CD. Unplayed games, tons of family pictures, zipped files that you have already opened, applications you have not used in two years, software for that old printer you threw away last year—these are a few examples of files you can delete. Then use Window’s Disk Clean-up to delete temporary internet files, temporary PC health files, etc.
(Note for sophisticated users: some professionals would include the added care step of cleaning up the Windows registry, and there are plenty of applications to assist do that. For the most part, so this step isn’t included, you may do serious damage by making registry modifications, registry care will not make a major difference, and unless you are really comfy with Windows, and carefully make backups of the registry
Action 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it repair 0x000ff708.
Step 7. Defragment your computer.
Hopefully, now that you have have concluded, you will see a noticeable improvement in pc functionality.
