Malware
Maybe the most important factor to a badly performing computer is malware. Generally this is associated with downloading an application that contains spyware, by not having browser security options high enough, by carelessly downloading P2P files, or by failing to install security patches regularly.
Stage 1. Revise the explanations of your anti-virus and operate a full scan of your hard disk drive in Safe Mode. Solve any unfixable problems. Note that some infections need extra steps until they could be removed; ordinarily a web search will locate specific instructions or a special removal tool. Use the BC forums to request assistance, if you fail to find a answer.
2. If the slowness is surprising, and you’ve recently saved an application, the problem may dwell there. Check this by completely removing it. A user will normally perform a web search about the application before getting because in most cases, any potential issue with malware or poor performance will have appeared.
Step three. Adware and Spyware can drastically effect your computer’s functionality, and these are around the World wide web. A very recent study showed that one out of every 20 executable files on Websites is spyware, and 1 in 25 domains contain at least one bit of spyware waiting for victims.
Update the explanations of your antispyware programs and scan your hard drives in Safe Mode. Experienced users will routinely run several of these programs, because each business has its own standards for what constitutes spyware and will only search against their own established. (A listing of really good, free anti-spyware programs is supplied by BC). Again, solve any open issues before proceeding to the next phase.
Uncontrolled Applications
Step 4. Evaluation apps that self-launch on startup. You computer may be a arena for your consideration. Many programs, for instance, install a quick-launch feature which enables them to be opened immediately; other programs may include an automatic update feature that requires them to be working in the background. Your launching Windows are slowed down by each of these and each requires a small bit of assets while your personal computer is running.
The easiest method to review and than to handle start-ups is to utilize one of the numerous small resources available (see the BC list of free programs). If, like, you have Spybot Search and Destroy, you can use its startup tool that lists startups and allows you to turn off any you don’t want. If you are uncertain about what could be safely removed, remember that Bc maintains a very complete Startup Database that contains information about whether the item is required, elective, or not needed.
At the same time, remember that all those symbols on your Desktop also take a modest number of trunk time to put themselves.
Lack of Upkeep
Step 5. Clean up your hard drive (preparation for Step 7). Delete unused programs and transfer old files to your CD. Unplayed games, lots of family pictures, zipped files that you have opened, applications you haven’t used in two years, software for the old printer you threw away last year—these are some examples of files you can delete.
(Note for sophisticated users: some professionals would include the added care step of cleaning the Windows registry, and you’ll find plenty of apps to help do this. For the most part, registry care will not make a major difference, and unless you’re quite comfortable with Windows, and carefully make copies of the registry, you may do severe damage by creating registry changes, so this step is not included
Stage 6. Run scandisk / checkdisk in Safe Mode. Have it mend 0x00000BEE.
Stage 7. Defragment your personal computer.
Hopefully, now that you have have concluded, you will see a marked enhancement in pc operation.
